글 can be broken down into three categories. It may be a record of some thought or event in written characters. This could refer to the act of writing itself, or to some piece of writing.

• 글 a piece of writing, a passage, an article, a sentence
• 글을 쓰다 to write
• 글을 잘 쓰다 to write well
• 글을 짓다 write a composition
• 글을 적다 to write down
• 글을 읽다 to read (writing)
• 글을 배우다 to learn to write
• 글의 뜻을 묻다 to ask the meaning of a sentence
• 좋은 글 good writing (style)
• 세련된 글 a polished sentence
• 알기 쉬운 글 a simple style
• 글을 다듬다 to polish one's style
• 글 솜씨 writing skills
• 글 쓰는 법 the way to write
• 글의 소재 writing materials
• 글에 횅하다 to be well versed in literature

It can also indicate the degree of someone's education or learning:

• 글을 모르다 to be unlettered/uneducated
• 글이 있다 to be learned
• 글이 짧다 to have little education
• 글 있는 사람 an educated person
• 글깨나 배웠다고 뽐내다 to be proud of one's learning

Lastly, it may mean the letters or characters that make up such writing scripts as the alphabet, hangeul or hanja.

• 글은 기성명이면 족하다 It's enough to know how to write your name.
• 글은 제 이름 석 자나 알면 족하다 It's enough to know how to write the three characters of your name.
