나라

나라 -- country. This is the native Korean equivalent of . 국 by itself does not mean country, but the word 국가 () as a compound word does.

[edit] History

The Japanese pronunciation for the former country of 백제 is 'kudara' and a book ('재미 있는 일본말의 뿌리') claims that it may have come from the Korean 큰 나라 (large country).
