단풍, pronounced "danpung", means the colors of fall. 단풍나무 means "maple tree", or literally a "fall-colors tree". The maple trees native to Korea, Japan, and Manchuria are Acer pseudosieboldianum and Acer palmatum.

단풍놀이 means to go out and view autumn foliage.

Danpung turn shades of red, yellow, and orange in autumn, and residents enjoy taking trips to see the striking colors. The most popular areas for viewing Danpung are Seoraksan mountain, the area around Naejangsa temple, and Piagol Valley in Jirisan National Park.
