City Hall Station (시청역, , city.office.station) is a station on line 1 and line 2 of the Seoul subway. It is next to Jonggak and Seoul Station on line 1 and Chungjeongno and Euljiro Ipgu Station on line 2. The name has remained the same since its opening on August 15 (Independence Day), 1974. As the name implies it is close to the Seoul City Hall. The area around the station and city hall is often used for large events, such as in 2002 when it was used to broadcast Korean football games, during which the entire area was a sea of red.
