죽은 나무 밑에 살 나무 난다 -- New trees are born at the feet of dead trees.
This proverb teaches us that even amongst those who suffer, good fortune can visit. (고생 가운데에서도 행운이 찾아오는 경우를 이르는 말.) However, in North Korea this same proverb means that new things grow out of dying things. (죽어 시드는 것이 있는 반면에 새로 나서 자라는 것도 있기 마련임을 이르는 말.)
