Sinchon
(Redirected from 지하철 신촌역)

Sinchon (신촌) or sometimes spelled 'Shinchon', is a popular area of Seoul, Korea, that is famous for its shopping and nightlife. Although the area is not as famed as nearby Hongdae, it is jam-packed with restaurants, bars, cafes, and clothing stores. Sinchon is at the heart of surrounding universities, such as Yonsei, Ewha, and Sogang which are famed for their International Studies departments. As a result, it has become a hotspot for both Koreans and foreigners to converge on.

Almost any sidestreet that has villas and apartments on it, is bound to have signs on display offering rooms for rent or 'hasuks'. But the best concentration of them can be found in the hills and back street beyond Exits 3 and 4 of Sinchon Station. Specifically, if you come out of Exit 4, walk straight and take your first left, then take a right, and walk for 1-2 minutes, you will begin to come across apartments with hasuk signs. At any time while walking this stretch, take a left and go up stairs leading up the hill and you will find a lot more. Rooms tend to be as low as 300,000won/mnth, and that often may include 1-2 meals a day. The landlady will often also do laundry for you, but it depends on the place if it's cost-inclusive or a little extra.
