A Buddhist monk during the Goguryeo period, thought to have initiated the construction of Jikjisa temple in Gyeongsangbuk-do in 418 A.D., after having founded the temple Gapsa in 420 A.D. He had arrived in Korea from China in 374 A.D. and introduced Buddhism to the Goguryeo rulers. Buddhism soon became the national religion.
