Advertising in Korea

One of the first things that one notices about Korea is the abundance of advertising in every shape and form, or nook and crannie. The sheer amount of competition and jockeying for attention results in a very in-your-face advertising world.

Professor Gwon Yeong-geol (권영걸) has compared Korean street advertising to that in Japan in his regular column in the Joongang Ilbo. In this column he criticized Korean street advertising for having no overall tone or atmosphere, and giving an incentive to companies to use larger and more garish signs to attempt to get the attention of the customer.
