Anmyeon-do

Anmyeon-do (안면도, ) is a large island in the city of Taean, in the province of Chungcheongnam-do. On its north end it is connected by a bridge to the mainland; on the south end there are ferries going to offshore islands and to the port of Daecheong in Boryeong. It is said to be Korea's sixth-largest island. It's noted for it's pine forests and for the rare Mogamju-namu tree (Koelreuteria paniculata). Part of the island is in the Taean Haean National Park.

Anmyeon-do was originally a peninsula, and appears to be one on maps lacking in sufficient detail. A canal was built during the reign of King Injo during the Joseon era, cutting it off from the mainland. It was finally bridged in 1968.
