I used to live near Balsan Station. It was basically a typical Korean urban area, fairly pleasant but the central parts of Seoul were at least a 30-40 minute subway ride away. The 88 Gymnasium is probably the biggest draw; they have a huge bowling alley (and probably other stuff, too, that I was too lazy to check out).

Shinchon will probably be more exciting and convenient.
