The first things that many foreigners think of Korea upon hearing about the country is its adjacency to North Korea, MASH, kimchi and soju. If you know more than that, you can consider yourself pretty savvy for someone who hasn't been to the country before. But this still leaves a ton of questions regarding what one might need to prepare in advance of coming here.
Well, contrary to what you might believe or may have heard, Korea is a very industrialized (some may argue too industrialized) country, that is bristling with western amenities and growing everyday. If you're in Seoul, even moreso. But even the satellite cities around Seoul and other areas of the country, it's not that hard to find things to meet your needs. But what's the biggest and most valuable thing that you could bring before coming to Korea? A slight watering down of your colloquial English and picking up a basic understanding of the local language. At least the alphabet, anyways.
