Bonghwa (봉화군, , donate.become.county) is a county in Gyeongsangbuk-do. The population as of 2004 was 37,662, including:

  • 37,526 Koreans and
  • 136 non-Koreans.

To the east of Bonghwa are the counties of Uljin and Yeongyang, to the west is the city of Yeongju, to the south is the city of Andong, and to the north are the cities of Taebaek and Samcheok in the province of Gangwon-do. Bonghwa is 43 km from east to west, and 40 km from north to south.

In the county is an area where the Sobaek and Taebaek Mountains meet, and there are a number of high mountains such as Taebaeksan (태백산, 1,567m), Guunsan (구운산, 1,346m), Geumsan (금산, 1,245m) and Seondalsan (선달산, 1,236m).

As Bonghwa is located away from the sea it has a relatively low temperature compared to the rest of the province. The average yearly temperature is 11℃, the average in January is 3.8℃, and the average in August in 27.3℃. The average precipitation over the year is 1310.8 mm.

The majority of Cheongnyangsan Provincial Park is located in Bonghwa-gun.
