Bravo Your Life

Bravo Your Life was a slogan used by Samsung Life Insurance in print and television advertisements in 2004 and 2005. It was a play on "bravo to you," according to a 2005 Korea Times article [1].

Along with KTF's "Have A Good Time" and Mr. Pizza's "Made for Women," "Bravo Your Life" has been one of the more laughable pieces of Konglish advertising. The improper use of "Bravo" was discussed in a JoongAng Daily letter to the editor [2] and a Korea Times piece, "Korean Firms Use Wrong Slogans" [3]. It is often cited as proof that English is used in South Korean advertisements for designating prestige, and not for transmitting information. And the phrase has drawn some scorn from English-speaking foreigners in Korea, who see it as self-defeating, considering Korea's desire to market itself globally. Defenders of the phrase argue that the Samsung Life Insurance ad was meant for domestic audiences, and that Korean customers understand the message [4].
