Buljeong-dong (불정동, 佛亭洞) was the former name for the Bundang administrative dong, Jeongja3-dong, in the city of Seongnam.
The entire area of Buljeong-dong was a part of the legal dong Jeongja-dong, and sits at the foot of Bulgoksan. Accordingly, the name Buljeong itself was created by combining the first Chinese characters from Bulgoksan, bul (불, 佛), and Jeongja-dong, jeong (정, 亭). While Buljeong is no longer used as the name of the dong, it still remains in use at Buljeong Elementary School (불정초등학교), Buljeong-ro (불정로), and Buljeong intersection (불정사거리).
[edit] History
During the Joseon Dynasty, the area where Buljeong-dong sat was part of Jeongja-ri (亭字里) in the township of Dolma, Gwangju County. Despite the administrative reorganization that occurred under the Japanese colonial period, which saw many counties and villages across the country merged and divided as authorities saw fit, Jeongja-ri remained unchanged. On the 13th of September 1971, Seongnam was made separate of Gwangju County. Then on July 1st, 1973, it was made a municipality and this area became Jeongja-dong. It was made part of the district of Jungwon in 1989. In July of 1999, Bundang was divided from Jungwon and in September of the same year was made one of Seongnam’s districts. On May 1st, 1996 the city of Seongnam divided Jeongja-dong into the legal dong’s of Singi-dong, Jeongja-dong, and Buljeong-dong. Then, on January 1st, 2001, the name of Buljeong-dong was again changed to its current name Jeongja3-dong.
