Children of the Secret State is a 2000 British documentary about street children and orphans in North Korea. Much of the film's footage was shot clandestinely and at great risk to the cameraman, and depicts a country where few care much about the plight of orphans. Children can be seen wandering through a dirty market, too tired to beg and scolded for trying to pick up a few stray grains of rice. It also includes interviews with defectors and others who cross the border with China over and over to get food.
The film was nominated for Amnesty International's Golden Matchstick award in 2001.
