Chilseong Market

Since the 1950's, Chilseong Market (칠성시장) has evolved in tandem with the growth of Daegu's agriculture industry. Over time, local people in the area began to broaden the market by also selling fish and seafood here. Since 1974, Chilseong Market has grown to encompass 6 smaller markets, consisting of Gyeongmyeong Market, which was formed during Japanese occupation, as well as Chilseong, Daesong, and Samseong Markets. Within these sub-markets, is a fish market and agricultural goods market, among others, and also a new and second-hand furniture market and tools market. Also, south of the market on the other side of the overpass, is Dongin Flower Market and is one of the largest flower shopping venues in Daegu.

The market also has some famous food alleys for traditional Korean dining, such as Kimbap Alley, Mandu Alley, and the infamous Dog Meat Alley. Mandu Alley is famous for its Jjin, Nabjak, and Vegetable Mandus.

[edit] Chilseong Market Festival

Every year since 1998, which celebrated the opening of Chilseong Station and Daegu's first subway line, a festival is held, consisting of a parade, singing contests, face-painting, etc...

[edit] Hours

Although you can find activity in the area at any given time, the general market hours are from 4am-6pm.

[edit] Directions

The market is accessible from any exit of Chilseong Station. The new and used furniture market can be found by coming straight out of Exit 3, crossing the street, and walking parallel to the highway overpass. You can begin to see furniture stores on your right. Take your next right down an alley. Down here, you can find many deals on furniture and bedding.
