Dong-gu is one of five gu in Gwangju city. It has traditionally been the center of the city. It has a population of 139,533 (10.5% of Gwangju's population) [1].
There are 22 designated cultural properties in Dong-gu [2]. Other notable places include the trendy Chungjangno area, Mudeungsan, and the Provincial Hall (도창).
