Dongdaemun (동대문, 東大門, east.big.door), formally known as Heunginjimun (흥인지문, 興仁之門), is a massive gate in Dongdaemun-gu that permitted traffic through the walls protecting the city of Seoul during the Joseon Dynasty. It is a major historical landmark. The area surrounding this gate, also called Dongdaemun, includes the massive Dongdaemun Market.
