Dongdaemun Market in central
Seoul is one of the major shopping districts in Korea. The market specializes in cheap buys, a wide variety of products, and a great selection of each. It includes 30 shopping centres, about 30,000 stores, and more than 50,000 wholesalers on site. Trade is conducted 24 hours a day in textiles, clothes, shoes, sporting goods, stationery, toys, pets, household goods, and accessories. If there's something specific you want --from pet pigeons, to fright wigs, to bathroom plumbing-- and you're at a loss for where to start looking, Dongdaemun Market is a wise choice.
[edit] History
Dongdaemun Market was built in 1905 to the immediate south of Dongdaemun, one of the four major gates in Seoul. Since its inception, Dongdaemun Market has consistently been one of the largest markets in Korea.
[edit] Shopping
The wholesale market officially opens from 8 pm to 9 am and the retail market from 10 am to 6 pm, but these hours are kinda loose, meaning you’ll find some of each open at any time.
Individual malls within the market cater to different types of customers, from traditional, cheap and practical, to the latest fashion trends -- many manufactured in the market the night before.
