[edit] Drinking Vocabulary and Expressions 술자리 용어
- Sul (술) : General term for all alcoholic beverages. Sul made in the home using traditional methods is called yakju (약주).
- Jan (잔) : General term for any glasses or cups used for drinking sul. Also part of other words such as soju jan (소주잔) and maekju jan (맥주잔) (beer glass).
- wehayeo (위하여) : An expression said when making a toast at a gathering, meaning "for/to (something)." Additional phrases might be added depending on the nature of the gathering. "To your health," (geongang-eul wehayeo 건강을 위하여) or "To business success" (saeop-eul wihayeo 사업을 위하여), for example.
- Han jan deurigesseumnida (한잔 드리겠습니다) : Meaning "I'm going to pour you a drink," this might be said to a person of high position while encouraging them to have a drink. You should give them the glass of cup with your right hand.
- Anju (안주) : Food eaten while drinking sul.
