The East Sea (동해바다, 東海) is the sea to the east of Korea, more commonly known as the Sea of Japan. Though there are disputes over which name should be used in an international setting, for a Korea-centred wiki it is generally considered wiser to use Korean names of areas with disputed ownership or naming conventions for the following reasons:
- Local names are used by the natives of a country and there is no chance of it being misunderstood or not known;
- A source of information used for foreign nationals in a country should not use names that may result in an argument or a conflict with the natives of a country.
This, however, does not forbid the writing of arguments for and against the use of the name East Sea.
