Gaeun is one of the larger small towns in Mungyeong. It once had a train line leading to it, but that has been closed down in 1995. There still are buses going to Seoul from there, as well as to destinations in Mungyeong-shi. Gaeun is the HQ for Gaeun-myeon.

• Bong-amsa is located in this myeon, up a side valley northwest of Gaeun. Celebrate Buddha's Birthday here - the only day it's open to the public.
