Geochang (거창군, 居昌郡, reside.bright.county) is a county in Gyeongsangnam-do, that is situated roughly one hour west of Daegu. The administrative center is the town of Geochang-eup or just commonly called Geochang. The population as of 2002 was 67,224. In addition to possessing a small, but growing number of foreign english teachers, as well as the occassional migrant worker at the nearby Seoul Milk plant, Geochang attracts seasonal tourist traffic to its different events and festivals.

To the east is the county of Goryeong in Gyeongsangbuk-do, to the north in Gyeongsangbuk-do as well is the city of Gimcheon, to the south are the cities of Jinju and Sacheon, and to the west is the county of Jangsu in Jeollabuk-do.
As Geochang is located far from the sea it has large variations in temperature. The average temperature in August is 26.0℃ and the average temperature in January is -2.5℃. The average amount of precipitation over the year is 1,177mm.
