The Korean alphabet is extremely efficient and is surprisingly easy to get your head around. Do yourself a favor and take 3-4 days before coming to Korea and learn the alphabet. If you have the time to get into it further, then start into one of the many free, online courses available for learning Korean. You can find a lot of alphabet and conversational resources on the Korean Language portal. Picking up the language before you come and within your first few months here, will deliver huge benefits for you in getting adjusted to living and thriving within the culture, but most importantly, develop that ever-important social network that successful expats cultivate and prosper with. As a Korean in Korea, you are only as good as far as your social networks can take you. The same applies to expats in Korea. And if not for those benefits, then at least for the basics such as learning the different foods on menus, how to order pizzas, or how to decipher the Korean on your 세탁기.
