Gim(κΉ€) is the name for seaweed, or laver, often eaten in Korea. The seaweed is dried and salted, and cut into rectangular form, each about 15 x 10 cm. Gim is different from Japanese nori in the sense that it is usually salted, and more brittle than the kind commonly eaten in Japan. There is a kind of gim used in gimbap, however, that is more like the Japanese kind as it needs to be wrapped around the rice.
A package of gim will usually sell for about 200 won, though they are usually bought in bulk. Gim can also be bought as large single sheets which can then be cut and shaped oneself. This method is cheaper and also creates less waste.
