Gimje (김제시, 金堤市, golden/kim.embankment.city) is a city in Jeollabuk-do. The population as of 2004 was 105,900, including:

To the west of Gimje is the city of Jeonju and the county of Wanju, to the south is the city of Jeongeup and the county of Buan, to the north are the cities of Iksan and Gunsan, and to the west is the Yellow Sea (황해).
Gimje is located in an area that goes from the Noryeong Mountains to the Yellow Sea. To the east are mountains around 500~700 metres including Moaksan (모악산, 母岳山:794m).
Gimje is part of the southwest coastal region with a strong northwesterly wind in the winter, and warm and humid in the summer. The average yearly temperature is 13℃, and the average yearly precipitation is 1,300mm. The average temperature in January is 1.2℃ and the average in July is 26℃.
The western part of Moaksan Provincial Park, including the well-known temple of Geumsansa, is located in Gimje-shi. Buses 79-1, 79-2 and 887 leave from the Geumsansa tourist village and go to Jeonju. The tourist village has several hotels plus a number of restaurants and souvenir shops. The temple is a short walk from there; and trails continue right to the mountain tops.
