Goheung (고흥군) is a county in Jeollanam-do. The population as of 2004 was 86,907, including:

Goheung is composed of the Goheung Peninsula, 38 inhabited islands and 122 uninhabited islands. To the east across the Suncheon Bay (순천만, 順天灣) is the city of Yeosu, to the west across the Boseong Bay (보성만, 寶城灣) are the counties of Boseong and Jangheung, and to the south is the Dado Sea (다도해).
The county is located right next to the sea and thus has a moderate climate. The average yearly temperature is 13.7℃, the average temperature in January is 1.5℃, and the average in August is 26.3℃. The average yearly precipitation is 1,308.3 mm.
Korea Space Center
The island of Waenaro-do (외나로도) in the county is the location for the Korea Space Center, which is currently under construction with cooperation from Russia. It is located at 34°26' N and 127°30' E, and the first rockets are planned to be launched starting in 2007. There will be continued construction undil 2015 with gradual heavier and heavier payloads as facilities are further developed.
The announcement to have the space center built in the county was made in 2003. Goheung is located at one of the furthest south locations on the Korean mainland, and the island of Waenaro-do is also located along the southern tip of the county. Jeju-do is further south than Goheung, but it was decided to launch the rockets from Goheung and to use Jeju-do to track their location.
