[edit] General information

Goyang is located just to the north and west of Seoul with which it shares a border. Goyang also includes the new and more well known city of Ilsan, in a relationship similar to that between Seongnam and Bundang where the newer satellite city portion is more well known than the city itself. As part of the Seoul capital area, living in Goyang is no less convenient than living in Seoul, and the subway lines 3 and 6 go through the city.

  • Number of households: 284,357 (2002)
  • Administrative divisions: 3 gu, 37 dong
  • Location of city hall: #10, Goyang Shicheong-ro, Deokyang-gu, Goyang-shi, Gyeonggi-do (경기 고양시 덕양구 고양시청로 10호)
  • City flower: Rose (장미)
  • City tree: 백송
  • City bird: Magpie (까치)

Besides Seoul to the southeast to the northwest is the county of Yangju, to the northwest is the city of Paju, and to the southwest across the Han River is the city of Gimpo.

On the west part of the city are the Gwangju Mountains, and the highest mountain there within the city limits is Bukansan (북한산), at 836 metres.

The climate is the same as Seoul: the average yearly temperature is 11℃, the average in January is -4.9℃, and the average in August is 25.5℃. The average yearly precipitation is 1,236mm. July and August have especially heavy rains, with about 350 mm per month.
