The Gwangju Kimchi Festival has taken place each October or November in Gwangju. The venue has varied over the years but in 2007 it is scheduled for Nov 16-20 at the Gwangju Yeomju Sports Complex area, Hwajeong 4-dong, Seo-gu, Gwangju-shi. This festival showcases the extra-hot and extra-fishy pickles of Jeolla-do. Kimchi is for sale from many different vendors here, samples are available, as well as informative displays (mostly in Korean). There may be English-speaking guides available for foreigners.
Beside the kimchi, there is traditional music, dance and theater. There are kimchi-making contests, including a special category for foreigners.
The festival organizers have also held kimchi festivals overseas, in Japan and China as well as in Paris.
