Help:Appropriate content for the Galbijim wiki

As a wiki, the Galbikim wiki also aims for a similar goal to that of Wikipedia: neutral, insightful pages with collaborative information difficult to find anywhere else. That being said, there are a great many differences between Wikipedia and this wiki. Examples include:

  • Korean lessons. It is perfectly fine to submit a Korean lesson, even including pictures (if they are copyright-free or made by you) and sound files (with the .ogg extension, so no .wav, mp3 or any other formats). This is the sort of content one might find at Wikibooks, though over here one single lesson is appropriate and need not be made into a complete book.
  • Korea-specific content not appropriate for a general encyclopedia. These include list of foreigners with Cyworld pages, Po (a type of food), and others. Pages like these would be deleted on Wikipedia, the first for being too specific and the second for being the wrong language (though an article on could exist on the Korean Wikipedia).
  • More specific information and more sub-pages than Wikipedia. An article on Sanbon, for example could also be expanded to Sanbon 1-danji, Sanbon 13-danji; an article on Gyobo Books could be expanded to Gyobo Books (Gwanghwamun), Gyobo Books (Gangnam), if there is enough content to warrant a separate article. A general upper size limit for pages on a wiki is 30 KB or so, so an article on Sanbon would first attempt to include all the danjis (smaller sections of the town), but if the size were to reach or exceed 30 KB, it would be fine to create a new article (Areas in Sanbon to start) and then perhaps even more when that page reaches the upper size limit. Other articles could include Mountains around Sanbon, Coffee shops in Sanbon, and so on. Articles this specific would be deleted on Wikipedia.

[edit] Inappropriate content

Because the objective is to have a neutral source of information, a lot of the information submitted here may be altered or deleted. Please make sure that you are writing in the correct format when contributing to the wiki. Examples of content that would be modified or deleted include:

[edit] Use of the first person

This wiki is written by everyone so there is no need to use the word "I" or "me".

I remember when Seoul Station used to be red-colored, I think it was rebuilt in 2004 or so."

would be changed to:

Seoul Station was once red-colored, and rebuilt later on around the year 2004.

[edit] Non-neutral or point-of-view (POV) content

Information that only represents an opinion without proper sourcing will usually be deleted. However, it is permissible to write whatever you like on the talk page of an article. Messages there will not be deleted.

Man, that bar Gecko's is just full of washed-out English teachers and gold-digging sluts.

will be deleted. However, a comment like this would be permissible:

Some people dislike Geckos, seeing it as a haven for washed-out English teachers and one-night stands.

Even better would be the line above with a link to a discussion on Gecko's so that the reader can see first-hand some of the discussions about the bar. It would also be permissible to include quotes from a discussion as long as they are of a general nature (i.e. about the bar itself and not a specific incident) and without anything of a derogatory, racist, commercial, or pornographic nature.===Attempts at humour=== Attempts at humour may or may not be acceptable depending on how it is written and the page it is on. Pages on Korean lessons are of a more personal nature than a general article on a city and so the style is much less inhibited.

It is also home to a great community of english teachers who boost the local economy by pouring all of their money into the hands of the local bar owners. Pohang is home of the famous "Chicken Man." Throughout Korea, it is common knowledge that he provides the best chicken sticks, at a great price with excellent service. His stall can be found in downtown, just down from the post office.

This would be deleted in its entirety (and actually was, this was content submitted to the English Wikipedia by an anonymous user and later reverted as useless information). A comment on this chicken man might be acceptable if actual information on location and price were included, but it would likely be more appropriate on a sub-page focusing on a smaller section of a town rather than the whole city.
