Help:Writing pages on this wiki

This is a short tutorial on how to write pages on a wiki. This wiki uses the same MediaWiki software used on Wikipedia, so if you know how to write pages over there you will have no problems writing pages here.

Contents

[edit] Creating a new page

New pages are created by using squared brackets, like this: [[]] The name of the page you wish to link to will be inside. If the page already exists, it will be in blue: [[Seoul]] becomes Seoul. If the page does not exist, it will be in red. [[Why coffee in London is pure shyte]] for example (a page that will never exist here) would look like this: Why coffee in London is pure shyte. When you click on a red link it will take you to the edit section of the new page, and all you have to do is start typing.

[edit] Categories

All pages will be assigned categories to make them easier to find once the content has grown. If you do not know about categories, do not worry. If you are making a new page without a category someone will come along and assign a category to it later. Categories would include such subjects as Seoul subway line 2, History of Korea, Korean language, Visas, that sort of thing.

[edit] Formatting pages

Right above the edit window you can see a number of buttons that can be used to format pages. Formatting is useful if you want to

  • Create lists
    • like this
    • or like this
  1. Create numbered lists
  2. like
  3. this

creating tables, and so on.

[edit] Uploading an image

To upload an image:

  • Simply click the 'Upload file' link on the left-hand pane (Toolbox)
  • Click 'Browse' button and select the file you wish to upload
  • You can also change the filename by changing it in 'Destination Filename'
  • Click 'Upload File'

Images can be inserted by clicking the 'Embedded Image' symbol on the top of the edit pane and changing the filename as required.
