Jeju Air (제주항공) is to be the newest airline in the country after it begins operation. It was created to operate low-fare flights between Jeju-do and areas of the mainland.

Contents

[edit] History

The airline was established in January 2005 by the Aekyung Group (75%) and the Jeju Provincial Government (25%). It has placed orders for 5 Bombardier Dash 8 Q400 aircraft (with options on 3 further aircraft), with a total contract value of $196 million if all options are taken up (ref: Air International, July 2005).

[edit] Services

Jeju Air commenced flights on June 2 2006, initially flying between Jeju and Busan, Cheongju, Daegu, Seoul (Gimpo Airport), and from Seoul (Gimpo Airport) to Yangyang International Airport. Prices cost 59,100 from Gimpo to Jeju-do, 30% less than that of the other two airlines (Korean Air and Asiana Airlines), which sell the tickets for the price of 84,400 won.

Planned routes in the future include Gimpo to Gimhae (from July), Gimpo to Yangyang (from August), and Jeju-Gimhae (from October). The number of flights began at 10 per day, but will increase to 50 per day from November.

[edit] Future plans

Jeju Air plans to commence flights to China and Southeast Asia after the year 2010.
