Jeju United

A founding member of the K-League in 1983, Jeju United have undergone several hardships during the years and have struggled to make a serious impact on Korean football.

Originally called Yukong Elephants and owned by the SK Corporation, the club has lifted the Championship on only one occasion in 1989.

At the end of 1995 the side moved from the Dongdaemun Stadium in Seoul to the Mok-dong stadium on the very western edge of Seoul, and renamed themselves Bucheon Yukong after the city of Bucheon, only 10 miles from the Mok-dong stadium.

Mid-way through the 1997 season the club rebranded itself as Bucheon SK, and at the start of the 2001 season moved to the 35,545 seater Bucheon Leports Stadium.

After several unsuccessful seasons in Bucheon, the side's fortunes took a sharp upturn in 2005 as they started to challenge at the top end of the table. Sensing a chance to capitalize on the success, owners SK made the decision to relocate the team to Jeju island to take up residence at the vacant Seogwipo World Cup Stadium, adopting the name Jeju United for 2006.
