Korea Broadcasting System (한국방송, 韓國放送) is South Korea's premier public broadcaster and one of four major Korean television networks.
The state-operated network is best known for nightly newscasts and lavish historical dramas, although private broadcasters such as MBC and SBS have produced popular historical dramas in recent years as well.
KBS offers two terrestrial channels, commercial-free KBS1 (news, education and culture) and KBS2 (entertainment and sports), as well as satellite and international services.
KBS is run by an independent public corporation that receives funds from the national government and collects revenues from mandatory television licence fees--similar to the BBC and NHK.
