If you ever find yourself in the middle of dispute with you employer where you feel that he or she has broken the contract and/or violated any labor law that is codified in the Korean Labor Standards Act, the most efficient way to handle your issue is to go to the Korean Labor Office nearest you. Filing a claim at the Korean Labor Office is a surprisingly simple procedure and the board has a decent dispute resolution system that eases the burden on the employer and the employee.
Please only do this as a last resort, and try to use all means available to civilly speak with your employer and let your employer know that you are aware of the law.
Unfortunately, many issues are not easily resolved and the Korean Labor Office dispute resolution mechanism is often needed. To file a complaint with the office, first go, ideally with a Korean friend, to the labor office that is responsible for your area of employment. The labor office simply requires an employee to fill-out a form in Korean explaining the situation. If the board is unable to directly resolve the matter with your employer, the board may make a recommendation to the local court to rule in your favor. The local court usually accepts the recommendations of the board.
