Maebongsan is a hill on the west side of Jeomchon, Mungyeong-shi, Gyeongsangbuk-do. Some high-rise apartments and a school are built on its east flanks. There are several trails leading to the summit. One is from a parking lot in back of the stadium. Another is in back of the high-rise complex built on its lower slopes. One is from the village of Shimitdol on the southwest side, another from a village on the south side. There are several others. There are some graves in several locations near the crest of the hill. On the summit is an exercise area. Partway down toward the school is a drinking fountain, turned off in the cold season.
Maebongsan has an elevation above sea level of 237.3 meters.
This photo, take from the side of Maebongsan, looks down to Shimitdol, a village on the southwest side of that hill. Though both the expressway and the new Highway 3 bypass run just out in the valley to the west, and Jeomchon is just over the hill, Shimitdol is still a small rural farming village.
Hula hoops, weights, as well as fixed exercise gear, is found at the summit of Maebongsan. It's not uncommon to find two or three people at a time working out up here. Climbing this 237.3-meter hill is a good warmup.
