Manghaeam Temple on Gwanaksan means "view of the sea from the temple." When the skies are clear, you can see the sun set over the sea.
[edit] History
It is said that the temple was built by Wonhyo, a famous Buddhist priest at the end of the Silla dynasty. It was rebuilt in 1803 by King Sunjo's mother. The stone Mireuk Buddha was built in 1479. One legend says that sailors were cuaght in a storm at sea. A buddhist monk was there, and he calmed the waters. He said he was from Manghaeam. Later, the sailors stopped by Manghaeam to pay their respects. The monks had never heard of this particular monk. The sailors were astonished to find the stone Buddha because it looked just like the monk who saved their lives.
[edit] Getting There
Get there by taking the #7 bus going north at Beomgye Station or the #3 green bus going east at Anyang Station. Both buses end at Imgok Jugong Apartments. At the end of those routes, follow the road to the fork on the left and up the mountain. It's a thirty minute mild incline to Manghaeam. On the way you pass three other colorful temples.
