Miryang or Miryang-si (밀양시, 密陽市, literally "secret sun city") is a city in Gyeongsangnam-do. To the south are the cities Changwon and Gimhae. Miryang is a city that historically has produced a large number of scholars and its position in between the cities of Busan and Daegu have given it an advantageous position which has helped its development.

In December, 2004, 12 high school students were arrested and 29 others were booked for their roles in the repeated gang rape of five middle school girls. The police involved were strongly criticized for the mistreatment of the five victims. According to a Korea Times article, the victims were subject to insults from the suspects and the suspects families, as well as from the police. One police officer is quoted as saying "My hometown is Miryang, and you girls have brought disgrace on the city" [1].

Mountains near Miryang include Hyangbongsan (화봉산, 992 m) and Cheonhwangsan (천황산, 1 189 m) to the east, Gajisan (가지산, 1 240 m), Unmunsan (운문산, 1 188 m) and Hwaaksan (화악산) to the north, and Cheonwangsan (천왕산, 619 m) and Hwawangsan (화왕산, 756 m) to the east. Note that the pronunciation of Cheonhwangsan and Cheonwangsan will be nearly the same when spoken quickly.
The main rivers in the city are the Cheongdocheon and Danjangcheon which combine together within the city to become the Miryang River, after which it flows to the south to later flow into the Nakdong River.
The average yearly temperature of the city is 13℃, with an average of 1.0℃ in January, and 24.9℃ for August. The average yearly rainfall is 1,035.5mm, which is not a great deal compared to other areas.
