Namak New Town

Namak New Town, or Namak New City (남악신도시) is an urban planning initiative designed to expand the village of Namak, in Samhyang-myeon. Since 2005, Namak has been the location of the Jeollanam-do Provincial Office, although the present size of the village does not reflect this position. As of 2001, Samhyang has a population of just under 9,000 [1], but the new plans are aiming for around 150,000 [2].

The plan, schedule for completion in 2019, calls for the expansion of commercial, industrial, cultural, and residential areas. Two main components of the plan are the completion of Muan International Airport and a new Provincial Office building.

Recreation

Every August Muan hosts the White Lotus Festival on 82 acres of land.

Transportation

An international airport is under construction in Muan, and is scheduled to open sometime this decade.
