Muju-eup is situated along both banks of the Namdaecheon river in northeastern Jeollabuk-do. It is the main town and government headquarters for Muju-gun. As of 2001 it had a population of 9,789 [1].

• Air. Nearest air service is in Daegu and Daejeon.
• Bus. Bus service goes to Jeonju from here, via Ancheon 5x daily, or by Cheongcheong more often. Also bus service to Daejeon, Seoul, Yeongdong, and Daegu via Seolcheon and Gimcheon.
• Road.
• Train. No train service to Muju. Nearest train service is in Yeongdong.

• Muju Hyanggyo is located in Gyodong village, Eupnae-ri and is Jeollabuk-do Cultural Asset No. 103.
• The annual Firefly Festival takes place each June.
• The five-day Firefly Market is held on days ending in 1 and 6.
