Namyangju (남양주시, 南楊州市, south.willow.province.city) is a city in Gyeonggi-do. The population as of 2004 was 423,073, including:
- 418,360 Koreans and
- 4,713 non-Koreans.
The city is located at 127°05′∼127°31′ East, and 37°31′∼37°41′ North. To the north of the city is the county of Pocheon and the city of Uijeongbuk, to the east are the counties of Gapyeong and Yangpyeong, to the south is the city of Hanam, and to the west is the city of Guri, and Seoul.
The city is in quite a mountainous region with mountains extending over 800 metres in some places. Mountains in the city include Suribong (수리봉, 537m), Jugeumsan (주금산, 813.6m), Seorisan (서리산, 825m), Chungnyeongsan (축령산 ,879m), Cheonmasan (천마산, 812.4m), Ungilsan (운길산, 610.2m), Suraksan (수락산, 637m), Bulamsan (불암산, 508m), Baekbong (백봉, 590m), Yebongsan (예봉산, 683m), and Munansan (문안산, 536m).
The climate of the city is nearly the same as that of Seoul although one should take into account the higher elevation. The average temperature over the year is 12.4℃, the average in January is -5.4℃, and the average in August is 26℃ with around 1,274 mm of rain per year.
