Nongseong Square, 농성광장, is a small park in the Seo-gu section of Gwangju. The park is outside of gate 7 of Nongseong Station and features trees, trails, two small pavillions and a few exercise stations.
Nongseong Square is designated as Historic Site no. 16 of the May 18 Democratic Uprising (5.18 민중항쟁 사적 16). On this site on May 22, 1980, the Citizen's Army and Martial Law Forces (MLF) clashed, and according to the park's memorial, many died when shots were fired across the square and into nearby buildings and apartments. On May 26, as the MLF regrouped, members of the Citizens' Resolution Committee lay down in the square.
