Okgye-myeon

Okgye-myeon (옥계면) is at the south end of Gangneung-shi, closer to Donghae. The main town, Hyunnae-ri, is a small place. There's at least a couple yeogwans there and a yeoinsuk. There's a number of restaurants but don't expect to get dinner much after 7 p.m. Bus No. 31-1 will take you into Donghae (1240-1300 won), another will take you to Gangneung. There's a five-day market here, held on days ending with 4 and 9. The train stops a couple kms. away and there's also a port area and beach. There's some large industries here, including a cement plant. A Nong Hyup supermarket is near the main bus stop in the middle of town.
