Our Lady of Naju is a statue of the Virgin Mary that reportedly began weeping tears and blood in 1985 in Naju, Jeollanam-do. The phenomenon first appeared to Julia Kim and continued for 700 days. In 1992 the statue began expel fragrant oil, and a number of unexplained events have continued since then [1]. In 2002, a statue of Jesus on the Cross located on "Blessed Mother's Mountain" reportedly started to bleed and weep [2]. There has been no official position taken by the Pope on these events.
In 2003 Dr. Lee Jung-bin conducted blood tests and determined that the Virgin Mary has type-B blood [3].
Many people make pilgrimages to the Chapel in Naju (where the statue is now kept) each year. There are certain days that are the most popular for visits:
- The first Saturday of each month
- June 30 - the anniversary of the 1985 event
- October 19 - the anniversary of the first tears of blood
- November 24 - the anniversary of the first fragrant oil
