Pat Bing Su (팥빙수, 팥氷水) is a popular shaved ice dessert in Korea. 팥 are red beans, and 빙수 (氷水) means ice. Its base consists of shaved ice to which red bean syrup, cream, milk, ice cream, fruit and / or condensed milk may be added. Variations on this theme may be found in the Philippines (Halo-halo), Malaysia and Singapore (Ais kachang), as well as in Hong Kong and China.
During the summer months it is particularly popular and can even be found on the menu of western franchise restaurants such as McDonalds, KFC and Burger King, as well as Lotteria. Generally these come in a single serving size while elsewhere larger servings for more than one person can be found.
Many bakeries serve pat bing su in summer.
