The Rapture (휴고) is the belief that Christians will be taken up to heaven, before, during or after seven years of Tribulation. A Korean group, Mission for the Coming Days, or the Tami (다미) Church, predicted that this would occur on October 28, 1992. Their pastor, Lee Jang Rim, predicted this on the basis of revelations by 16-year-old Bang Ik Ha . Full page ads were bought in newspapers around the world. On the appointed day, thousands gathered to await the end in churches around Korea. At midnight, it was announced that nothing had happened and that everyone was to go home. In Gwangju the minister of one chuch was beaten by a disgruntled member of his flock , and Lee was later convicted of fraud. He had invested some of his followers' money in bonds maturing after the predicted rapture date.
