René Marie Albert Dupont (두봉 레나도) was born in France on 2 Sep 1929. He was ordained a Catholic priest in 1953. On 29 May 1969 he became Bishop of the Diocese of Andong, Andong, Gyeongsangbuk-do, a position he held until 6 Oct 1990. [1]
In 1979, during the time of Park Chung Hee he was threatened with deportation by the Korean government for his role in questioning the abduction of a farmer, Oh Won-chon, by government agents. Intercession by the Vatican and other Korean bishops caused the government to drop the case. [2]
