Here in the land of the Latter-day Saints there are enough Koreans to support a Korean-language newspaper, a Presbyterian Church, a suprisingly good restaurant scene, and a Korean grocery store.
[edit] Restaurants
- Korea House is in a little shopping center with Vietnamese, Hawaiian and Mexican restaurants. At 1465 South State Street, it is open from 11-2:30 for lunch, as well as for dinner. Reasonably priced, with outstandingly good food.
- Jang Su Jang - you'd think you were back in Korea, from the decor here. When the busloads of Korean tourist come in you'd have no doubt. Excellent authentic food with some menu items seldom found in this neck of the world. You'll find such dishes as kkotgae-maeuntang, and specials sometimes include sundaeguk, a dish not often found in the U.S. Its open Mon-Sat from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and on Sunday from 2-9. Closed 2nd and 4th Mondays. They do seem to have the idiosyncracy of presenting non-Korean customers with water to drink and barley tea for the Koreans. Ask for hot or cold bori cha if you'd like it. It's located at 2701 SOuth State Street, SLC 84115. Tel: (801) 467-7778.
- Ija 32505 700 East. Lunch in from 11:30 - 2:30 from Monday to Thursday only. Weekends only dinner is served.
- Myeongga Sundubu 1839 West 3500 South, in West Valley. Tel: 908-0124; 908-0130
