Samuel Moffett was a Presbyterian missionary in Korea. He first came to Pyeongyang in 1880 for two weeks, returned with James Scarth Gale in the Spring of 1881 and found the people not receptive to Christianity.
In November 1893 he returned to establish a mission. Despite attempts on his life and looting of his property by Japanese troops, he obtained property and set up a mission in 1895.
He guided Isabella Bird when she visited Pyeongyang.
