Samyeong-daesa was a Buddhist monk during the time of the Imjin War with Japan. He was born in Miryang-shi. He organized a group of monks to fight the Japanese invasion.
He helped to rebuild Beopjusa after it was destroyed in the Japanese invasion. [1]
In 1604 he went to Japan to represent the Korean government and met with the shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu. The shogan returned to Samyeong 3,500 Korean prisoners and a holy relic stolen from Geonbongsa [2] temple in Geumgangsan in North Korea.
